Teachers all grapple with the issue of not having enough wall space in their classroom to display all the posters, anchor charts and students' work they would like to. It is worse now as newer classrooms are getting smaller or districts use more and more small portables. Homeschooling parents also have to deal with eking out enough wall space at home for classroom use. I am going to suggest that you take word walls off the list of things you need to display on your walls. In fact, I think there is an even better option than word walls. Organzing A Classroom
Are you ready for a new classroom theme? You might want to try going with superheroes. It can be lots of fun for the teacher and the kids! I even made up a set of superhero I can statements for my new classroom theme. I pasted the images into PowerPoint, then printed them up and cut them out to display the images on classroom walls and bulletin boards. Using fun clipart like this can really jazz up a classroom! If you are working in a small classroom like myself, you realize quickly that you have to get very creative to fit everything in. My anchor chart system in my portable was something that really never worked well for me. My school had supplied me with a nice looking anchor chart easel. It even had those convenient storage bins underneath. At that time I was grateful to get it. Literature organizers can be a quick inexpensive way to set up student mailboxes. The problem with these organizers is how to label the slots each year. The sticky labels can be a pain to remove and replace. I came up with a solution that works for me and might work for you. I use plastic badge covers which many teachers are already familiar with. These are used for school ID badges. Two boxes of these badge covers cost about $10.00 and will last many years. I cut the ends off of the badge covers where the lanyard clip attaches to the plastic.
