Here is a monthly reading log that works really well for teachers, students and parents, plus it looks good enough to hang on the fridge!
Students, parents and teachers will be happy with this reading log because:
- it is quick and easy to fill out.
- they only need to sign it once a week.
- there is a lot less prep time and printing and goal setting.
I made a reading log for every month of the school year. Each month has a different color. I also made all of these in a black and white version.
For each monthly reading log I put in how many minutes they would read if they read every day, four times a week or twice a week for 20 minutes. Depending on how many days in the month the number of minutes will change. This helps the kids and parents with setting and monitoring their reading goals. It has been proven that setting reading goals can improve the students enjoyment and comprehension.
The kids and parents then will set a goal for each week with how many minutes they will read and there is a place to fill in that week’s goal. At the end of the week they add up their minutes and see if they achieved their goal. Then they can set the reading goal for next week.
The students have their parents initial the log and bring return it to school to be checked once a week. At this point teachers can talk with kids that need help setting and meeting their goals. Then the reading logs go back into their homework folders to go home for next week’s home reading.
The prep for these reading logs are minimal. Send your reading log pdfs to your print shop at the beginning of the year and you’re set for the rest of the year!
I have updated these reading logs for three years now for free. Buy it once and download it for free the next year!
Not only is this monthly reading log great for students, teachers and parents but it looks great on a fridge! To see how nice they are check them out here.
